Users in Europe now have the option to pay for a monthly subscription to access Instagram and Facebook without ads. The subscription costs €9.99 on the web or €12.99 on iOS and Android. An additional fee of €6 on the web and €8 on iOS and Android will be charged for each additional account listed in a user's Account Center starting in March. These offerings are in response to European regulations on personalized ads. Users can still use the platforms for free but will see ads. The plans do not apply to users outside of Europe. Meta has previously argued that its data collection for advertising is necessary but privacy advocates and regulators disagree. The company stated that it will continue to offer free access to its products and services regardless of income and is committed to complying with European regulations.
