The tug-of-war is on between retailers wary of throw-away prices and deal-hungry Black Friday shoppers

Shoppers flocked to their favorite stores in person and online on the day after Thanksgiving to take advantage of early holiday deals. However, early shopping trends suggest that shoppers were not in a rush and were waiting for better deals. Retailers offered discounts ranging from 25% to 30%, but consumers were not showing a sense of urgency and were mainly browsing rather than purchasing. Some popular items, such as videogame consoles, toys, jewelry, and clothing, were selling quickly online. Total holiday sales this year are expected to be softer compared to last year due to various economic pressures. Retailers are trying to balance offering attractive deals while maintaining profitability. Some malls reported decent foot traffic and discounts ranging from 25% to 40%. Brands popular with younger shoppers saw lines forming outside their stores. JCPenney opened its stores early and offered affordable products and credit promotions to help customers combat inflation. Value-priced items were selling well, indicating that customers are prioritizing affordability over higher-end items.
