William Lewis, the former CEO of Dow Jones and publisher of the Wall Street Journal, has been named as the new publisher and CEO of The Washington Post. He will assume the role on January 2, 2024. Lewis expressed his commitment to championing high-quality journalism and growing the Post's business. He will be taking over at a critical time for the newspaper, which has been facing financial trouble, declining readership, and layoffs. The Washington Post's readership has decreased since former President Donald Trump left office, and the paper has struggled to adapt to changes in Americans' reading habits. Previous CEO Fred Ryan announced his departure in June, after facing criticism for abrupt layoffs. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who purchased the Post in 2013, expressed confidence in Lewis as the right leader for the future of the newspaper.
