N.R. Narayana Murthy, co-founder of Infosys, believes that young Indians need to work exceptionally long hours if they want to see the country become a global economic powerhouse. He emphasized the need for highly determined, disciplined, and hardworking individuals who should dedicate 70 hours a week to work. Murthy compared this work ethic to that of Germany and Japan after World War II. He expressed concern that Indian youth are adopting undesirable habits from the West instead of helping their country. Murthy suggested that India should learn from successful policies implemented by other emerging markets, particularly China. He urged corporate leaders to motivate young people by highlighting India's newfound global respect and the opportunity to accelerate progress. Murthy's comments have been met with criticism on social media, as surveys have shown that many Indians already feel overworked and underpaid.
