Jane Chen, co-founder of Embrace Global, a nonprofit organization, is urgently mobilizing her team to help save the lives of premature babies in crisis situations such as war, natural disasters, and remote areas. Embrace Global produces low-cost portable baby incubators that do not require a constant supply of electricity. These incubators, which resemble sleeping bags, consist of three parts: an infant sleeping bag, a reusable pouch filled with a wax-like material that maintains a constant temperature for up to eight hours, and a heater to reheat the pouch. Chen emphasizes that the pouch only requires a 30-minute charge for reuse, making it suitable for areas with intermittent access to electricity. The organization has already donated incubators to Ukraine, Turkey, and Syria, and is now looking to provide aid to Gaza in response to the deepening crisis between Israel and Gaza. Medical experts stress the importance of quick and constant access to incubators for preterm and low-birth-weight babies in these situations. Chen is seeking partnerships with organizations to effectively distribute the incubators in Gaza and is also assessing the need for them in Israel. Donations are being sought through various channels, including GoFundMe, individual donors, foundations, and corporate donations.
