China's former central bank governor, Zhou Xiaochuan, expressed optimism about the country's central bank digital currency (CBDC), stating that it is nearing completion. He mentioned that 90% of retail payments in China are already digitalized, with only 10% remaining. Zhou discussed the challenges of digital currencies, including mobility, convertibility, data protection, and privacy issues. The conference where he spoke was attended by several incumbent central bank governors from around the world. Standard Chartered Bank China also joined China's digital yuan trials.
