The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has delayed its decision on Grayscale's spot Ethereum exchange-traded fund (ETF) application until January 2024. The SEC has extended the review period to allow for a more comprehensive consideration of the proposed rule change. The SEC will either approve or disapprove Grayscale's application by January 25, 2024. This delay is in line with the SEC's cautious approach towards integrating crypto-based ETFs into mainstream financial products. The SEC has also been holding meetings with major financial institutions, including Grayscale, regarding their crypto ETF applications. The SEC has previously delayed decisions on various ETF filings, and as of now, no spot Bitcoin or Ethereum ETF applications have been approved for listing on a U.S. exchange.
