South Korea's largest supermarket chain, Emart, has announced that its next-generation ATMs may soon support cryptocurrency and security token offering (STO) trading. The ATMs, installed at Emart24 convenience stores in Seoul, are primarily aimed at overseas tourists and offer foreign currency exchange and VAT tax refunds. Emart24 plans to expand its services to include cryptocurrency ATM and STO trading options in the future. The supermarket chain is also exploring accepting payments from e-pay platforms popular in China and Japan, and there is a possibility that it may start accepting Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) payments to cater to Chinese customers. South Korean firms are eagerly awaiting legislation to legalize STOs in the country, although all forms of coin issuance are currently illegal.
