A Spanish man who was wanted by the FBI for his involvement in providing blockchain services to North Korea has been arrested. Alejandro Cao de Benós, the founder of the Korean Friendship Association, was apprehended in Madrid after hiding out in Catalonia. He is accused of organizing a cryptocurrency conference for North Korea's benefit and recruiting a cryptocurrency expert to provide illegal services to the country. The US Department of Justice claims that Cao de Benós and his co-conspirator taught North Korean officials how to use blockchain and cryptocurrency to evade sanctions. The co-conspirator, Christopher Emms, is still at large. The arrest comes after the cryptocurrency expert, Virgil Griffith, was arrested and sentenced to prison for helping North Korea evade sanctions. Emms allegedly advised North Korean officials on using cryptocurrency to bypass sanctions.
