The continued interest of traditional financial institutions in cryptocurrency demonstrates that it is no longer considered a passing trend, according to CFTC Commissioner Summer Mersinger. She believes that cryptocurrencies have proven their value and are now attracting mainstream investors. The recent surge in the price of Bitcoin, driven by reports of a proposed Bitcoin ETF by BlackRock, further supports this trend. Mersinger suggests that there is significant demand for Bitcoin-based ETFs and that the market is ready for their availability. Other industry experts, such as Ernst & Young executive Paul Brody, also acknowledge the growing interest in crypto among institutional investors. Brody argues that the SEC's delay in approving a Bitcoin ETF has created pent-up demand, particularly among major asset management firms like BlackRock and VanEck. He explains that these firms view Bitcoin as an asset rather than a payment tool, making it a potential beneficiary of regulatory approval. In contrast, Ethereum's ETH token is seen more as a tool for value transfer.
