Worldcoin, led by Sam Altman, has announced that it will no longer offer its Orb-verification service in India, Brazil, and France. The decision comes after the company recently expanded the service into these markets. The Tools for Humanity foundation, overseeing Worldcoin's development, clarified that the introduction of the Orb in these regions was only temporary. Despite the discontinuation, the foundation expressed its commitment to collaborating with partners to ensure compliance with regulations and maintain a secure service. Worldcoin's eyeball verification process has faced scrutiny from governments and web3 industry advocates for digital privacy rights. The Orb, a five-pound chromatic sphere, scans individuals' eyeballs to verify their identities. Worldcoin, backed by $250 million in funding, aims to develop a solution for distinguishing humans from AI online and enhancing economic opportunities. The reasons for discontinuing the service in the mentioned countries remain undisclosed, but the company remains dedicated to maintaining a secure service while complying with regulations.
