Tony Fernandes, the CEO of AirAsia, caused controversy on social media when he shared a photo of himself receiving a massage during a management meeting. The photo, posted on LinkedIn, received criticism for creating an inappropriate work environment. In his post, Fernandes explained that he had a stressful week and a colleague suggested he get a massage. The photo showed him sitting in a conference room, receiving a shoulder massage. The post was later deleted after receiving backlash, with many users on LinkedIn deeming his behavior unprofessional. One critic pointed out that this could make female employees feel uncomfortable. When reached for comment, Fernandes declined to respond. He later explained that he had just endured a long flight and was in pain, which is why he decided to get a massage. Fernandes is known for relaunching AirAsia and currently serves as the CEO of its parent company, Capital A. He has been compared to Richard Branson and has a history of promoting an open work culture.
AirAsia Group rebranded to Capital A last year to showcase its expansion beyond being just an airline.
