Apple is planning to stop selling certain versions of the Apple Watch in the US this week due to an ongoing patent dispute with medical maker Masimo. The affected models are the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2. The dispute is centered around the blood oxygen feature of the smartwatch, which Apple has marketed as a life-saving device. Apple has confirmed that it is taking preemptive steps to comply with a potential ruling by the International Trade Commission, although it strongly disagrees with the order. The company intends to return the affected watches to customers as soon as possible if the ruling stands. The decision to halt sales comes just a few months after the launch of the Series 9 watch, which introduced features such as a custom S9 chip and hand gesture controls. Analysts believe that the impact on Apple's sales may be mitigated by the availability of the watches until December 24, allowing customers to purchase them before Christmas. This is not the first time Apple has faced trouble with Masimo, and the duration of the dispute and potential resolution remain uncertain.
