Former BP CEO Bernard Looney will not receive a severance package worth $40 million due to his "serious misconduct" involving undisclosed relationships with employees, which led to his dismissal. BP's board concluded that Looney knowingly misled them by providing inaccurate and incomplete assurances. Looney admitted to not being fully transparent about his past relationships with colleagues and resigned in September. The allegations were initially brought to the board's attention in May 2022 and although Looney disclosed some historical relationships, no breach of the company's code of conduct was found. As a result of his dismissal, Looney will not receive any further salary, pension allowance, benefits, or his 2023 annual bonus. He will also have to repay half of the cash portion of his 2022 annual bonus. Murray Auchincloss, the company's CFO, is currently serving as BP's interim CEO.
