Disney is following in the footsteps of Netflix by banning password sharing on its streaming services. In an email to Hulu subscribers, Disney announced that it would be implementing limitations on account sharing outside of the household starting March 14. The user agreements for Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+ explicitly prohibit users from impersonating others or using someone else's account information. The agreements also state that the company may analyze user accounts to ensure compliance with password-sharing rules, and violators could have their accounts restricted or terminated. Disney CEO Bob Iger previously hinted at addressing the issue of password sharing, stating it was a priority for the company. The updated user agreement terms from Disney come after Netflix's successful crackdown on password sharing, which resulted in an increase in new subscribers. Netflix recently announced a record number of subscribers in the fourth quarter. Disney's plans to address password borrowers may be further discussed by Bob Iger during the upcoming earnings call.
