Early applications at Harvard University decreased by 17% to the lowest level in four years, according to recent data. Harvard College accepted 692 students for the Class of 2028 from a pool of 7,921 applicants, resulting in an acceptance rate of 8.7%. This is an increase from the 7.6% acceptance rate last year. The decline in early applications comes at a challenging time for Harvard and other elite schools, particularly amidst criticism regarding their handling of antisemitism on campus. This is also the first admissions cycle after the US Supreme Court ruled that affirmative action in college admissions programs, including those at Harvard and the University of North Carolina, was unconstitutional. The reasons behind the decline in applications are unclear, although some of Harvard's peer institutions saw an increase in early admission applications. Harvard representatives were not available for comment.
