Global shipping company Maersk will resume operations in the Red Sea after temporarily halting activity due to attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels on commercial vessels. The Danish company announced that it will restart shipments in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden following the establishment of a new US-led security operation called Operation Prosperity Guardian. This multinational security operation includes several countries, and its aim is to safeguard the area and allow shipping vessels to pass through. Many companies, including BP, had suspended their operations in the Red Sea and avoided the Suez Canal due to these attacks. Approximately 10% to 15% of global trade, including 30% of container trade, passes through this waterway. Maersk had redirected its vessels away from the Red Sea and introduced new charges for transporting goods along longer routes. However, the company is now preparing to resume transit through the Red Sea while prioritizing the safety of its employees. Although security measures are being enhanced, the overall risk in the area has not been eliminated, and Maersk remains ready to reevaluate the situation and implement diversion plans if necessary.
