Tencent, a tech giant based in Shenzhen, China, has introduced a palm scanning service that allows users to leave their keys, wallets, and phones at home. While this technology is not new, Tencent aims to make it mainstream. The service, called Weixin Palm Payment, is a contactless biometric system that analyzes palm prints and vein patterns to identify users and process payments within seconds. Tencent hopes to integrate this system into daily life, making it more convenient for people to go about their daily activities without physical items. However, privacy and security concerns have been raised regarding the collection and storage of biometric data. Tencent assures users that security and privacy are their top priorities, and biometric data is stored securely on the cloud. The service is currently only available in mainland China, but Tencent has not ruled out expanding its use in the future.
